It is just as ugly as a bad Bald Cypress

Oak or elm. Pick your variation. Chinese Pistache (it is NOT pistachio) would work also. Maybe a pecan.

A fast growing weed tree is more trouble than it's worth. Don't plant a Pear, Hackberry, Tallow, Mulberry.

      Cypress needs too much water.

I have a couple bradford pears in my yard. I have trimmed them over the last 20 years or so. I have not had one limb break due to wind. They are a short lived tree but are nice to have.

Chinese Pistache will be the fastest growing but an oak will be the best long term and resale wise. Don’t get a junk tree as they are good shade quick but a PIA on maintenance

I love the growth speed of burr oaks, but if oaks are in the mix, my choice is Sawtooth oak.

It is fast as it gets, without being susceptible to storm damage.

The link he posted here is an awesome company. There is no better tree expert/supplier in north Texas.

x2, I planted one last year and is growing fast.

Thank you. It’s also impossible to keep grass growing under it.

First thing I would recommend is to install a sprinkler system if it doesn’t. At the same time you are doing that plant your desired trees and place a shrub head next to it. Between regular watering, fertilizer, and proper pruning after the first year you can increase growth rate of most tree species. We planted 15 live oaks along our driveway at the farm and ran irrigation to each. That was 8-10 years ago and most of the trees are 20-25’ tall with large crowns already. Most oaks can exhibit this type of growth with a little work to help them along.

Out of pure curiosity, what does the shrub do?

Keeps more water directly on the tree and roots.
