Scoutguard vs. Covert vs. Bushnell

I love the fact that my SG550 is outperforming every other camera I have. I just hope with all the new models that the original SG550 starts coming down in price!

maybe they merged but its the same camera, just buy it from a reputable dealer so when u return you can get it fixed. Reconyx are twice as much but 1000 times more reliable, depends on what u want, I like to know its still kicking, batteries charged and didnt miss a thing But the scoutguard should last you a year or two, good little cam

Im on my 3rd replacement in 2 years They are decent little cams for the price. Alot of people have had good luck with them so far but they have not been out long enough to know longevity. (remember the famous I40, they were so great until it fell in the crapper) Maybe I had bad luck, but at least the customer service is top notch so far. IF I still had my first one I would probably be singing a different tune. Now I have them out in the extremes of west texas so they will really be put to the test. I dont like that they will only hold a 2 gig card, I can fill that up quickly and 2 gig will only hold 1900-2000 pics (comparison for you Reconyx 4 gig card 20000 pics-it took 1500 in one week with ZERO blanks) and I know (smarty-pants) the price but you pay for what you get. I dont like having longer settings either because u stand the chance of missing something in that minute delay. I have had better luck out of my cuddeback captures which are going on a year without a sniff of a problem (u remember my photos from Baxter, TX;)

Dang!! I was originally going to purchase a Cuddeback Capture IR. Then I got to reading all the hype of the Scoutgaurds and was convinced to try one of them. Now maybe back to the Cuddeback....since all the talk of the Scoutguards not having a very long shelf life. Hmmmm.....

For the price, I think these cams should last more than a year or two!!! I got fed up with Moultrie because their cameras may or may not work past a year. Give me a camera that will work more than a couple of years...and back it with a warranty longer than 90 days or 1yr.

I feel ya. I was thinking cuddeback IR as well. Now I dont know which one to get. I'm still doing my homework before I buy a few. They are just to darn expensive to not get a good quality one.

Is the only difference between the covert I and covert II just the extra 2 led's??? It also looks like you can open the box on the covert II unlike the covert I.

I'm thinking I'm going to try a cudde IR and a sg550 covert and see which one does best.

I have the flash captures, not sure about the IR, just put one out after I returned all my moultries and this is all they had. I would have gotten the flash model but they were out. These cams (sg550) may last more than that but time will tell like the I40's did. Russ you are doing the right thing by researching. go to chasingame.com and read about them in the forums. I have heard some discouraging things about the cudde IR though. But I will see soon enough. The scoutguard is a good cam, all mine quit working within a month of the warranty expriring. both are good cams, the famous question-will they last. You are dealing with a middle grade cam so no telling. Like I said most have had good luck with the scoutguards. I am a little partial now after what I have going I have alot cams out on our place (3 reconyx, 2 buckeyecam, 4 captures, 2 scoutguard, 2 stealth590, one I40 (i got a good one I guess-2 years old no burnout cause I tape it with reflective barrier tape). The next to go are the 590. and already know what will take their place.

Dude you got more $$$ in cameras than I care to spend on deer hunting this year!!! LOL I found a 2 pack of sg550 coverts with 2 pythons 4 cards and 2 security boxes I think I'm going to get Friday when I get paid. Thanks for the info!!!

Something to consider: The Bushnell has a 2yr warranty...Scoutguard and Covert only a 1yr warranty.

That would be the deal breaker for me russ, u on maglites place why u need cable and box, u got ur own security watchmen, his avitar alone scares me off

You are 100% right on his avatar!!!!!!! But I hunt several places besides his place and they aint soo secure especially my public land honey hole! Never know when someone will find it! I missed a huge buck last year. The biggest I've ever seen while hunting, and it was on public land!!!!!!

Bee Busy Outdoors for me. $199 with no tax, free shipping and a free 2GB card. I've seen them for $189 with 2- 2GB cards but they make you pay shipping and are basically a break even with the bee busy..
