Delayed when buying a gun

I own over 20+ guns.
Never been delayed.

Recently I have been delayed 2x

1st time: never heard back and when I called after 2 weeks of waiting he said he still hasn't gotten anything back.

Then bought a 6.5 and was approved instantly.

Just went and tried to buy a 22-250 at Walmart and got delayed again.


Any clue as to why they choose to delay you sometimes and not?

No clue as to why you were, Im a 3rd with exact same names. Im always delayed. Idk who was the bad guy but it wasnt me. I've just come to understand Im gonna wait. Is this a new thing targeting gun ownership?

I doubt targeting. My buddy was with me and was approved within 2 min

Did you give your SS# on the 4473??

Depending on the commonality of your name & call volume will determine response times...remember that NICS is also dealing with covid / social distancing like other businesses so they may be short handed.

The FFL has the discretion to give you your gun after 5 business days if the NICS examiner does not call back, but most big box stores aren't going to do that. If it continues to be an issues you have two options to avoid the problem. First & most logical is to get your LTC. 2nd is ask an FFL or ATF to get you paperwork for a UPIN or unique personal identification number that you can give the FFL for future purposes. The background check is basically the same.

Back to the commonality of the name, if you have the same name as a felon & one of the three computers ping you & how resilient the NICS examiner wants to look into it will generally create a delay.

So, just get your LTC & be done with the aggravation.

Gotta finish the rest of my LTC stuff. Fingerprint etc

Yeah I found out about the LTC trick when I bought a receiver for a custom 10/22 build.

If you tried to buy them on the days when the riots were going on good I know everyone at my local gun stores was getting delayed.

I flew into Dallas to pick up my APR rifle and got delayed, man that sucked. Drove to Dallas 4 days later to pick up.
