If you get within 1/2 a mile of the park, the land on the left is my cousins and he will not bother you if you are on the gravel beds. Any spot before that for a LONG ways, I would be very cautious. I'm not saying don't do it. Michael correct me if I am wrong, y'all do camp way before James Kiehl, correct? I'm just saying if you are approached by the landowner, just don't even bother trying to argue and for sure don't offer him $100.00! He's good people. He really is. He just doesn't agree with the laws of the state when it comes to the river! LOL Then again, you might catch him on a good day and he might offer you a beer-but I doubt it.

One other thing. If you put in at Comfort, you will very quickly come across an old "dam" of sorts. Wear life jackets and whatever you do, don't dive off of it. There is a concrete ledge under water that has claimed more than one life. Other than that, like Michael said, I think it is the prettiest stretch of water in Texas, but I am a little biased as I have been fishing/floating/kayaking that stretch since I could walk.

** Michael is also correct in that anything below 70 CFS in Comfort is probably not worth floating unless you want to do a lot of walking.

Enjoy and if you get in a bind, holler at me and if I am around I'll try and help.
Thanks for the heads up, I'm in the same boat he's in with waterways down here. If he comes around I'll be as polite as he is too me.

Lol ya sleeping outside while sweating your butt off and getting eaten by bugs is awesome. I’ll out camp most for the right reason. . Just saying in Texas there aren’t many places you can’t be in or out of in a few hours. So might as well sleep good in a bed or pull an all nighter fishing and shooting stuff [emoji2369]

Good info. We've always camped past JK park.

Last weekend, we certainly didn't freeze! In fact, we got COLD as the temps dipped down to 60. I've never slept hot on any of our trips in Jun, July and even August. I will say that a hammock makes all the difference. On our Memorial Weekend 2019 Medina trip, tent sleepers complained of being warm while everybody in a hammock remarked at how cool (or even COLD) they were. Air flow off the river makes a big difference.

Oh, and bugs have only been an issue for those that like to watch videos on their phones all night (my kids)! The light attracts them, of course. We haven't ever used bug nets or even tarps/rain fly, either.

I was half way kidding with my first comment but people get so butt hurt on here I just had to go ahead and go all in with it just for fun lol.

I noticed that when I tried to use a headlamp. I have a Thermacell in case of skeeters.

Good plan on camping past JK park!!! LOL Last weekend I spent Wed/Thur/Fri/Sat nights on a flatbed trailer (on a really nice mattress!) as I have done for the last 15 or so years. Never once been hot but I've also never once been cold until last week! I woke up at daylight all four mornings and the temperature on my truck was 51/53/55/55. Something about that river bottom makes it get really cold. Slept like a baby except for the dang axis roaring and fighting all around me. We killed two for Saturday nights dinner. Chicken fried axis steaks with all the fixings. This was our groups 36th year to have this particular shindig on the river.

Sounds like several want to do this. I'll start a new thread when I get back home and get a solid date set but I'm really wanting to do second weekend in July. I got a job in Louisanna and North Dakota coming up I'm just waiting on dates so I can work around it.

                          If it floats it should!

Finally went down to corpus and picked up my second yak, I’m really to roll if anyone else is [emoji41]
