    Blame it on Michael...

But I'm really jonesing too go camp in the kayak! I've done just about everything else you can in a yak from fish too duck hunt, sight see to water safety at triatholons but never paddled a hill country river and camped out on it.

Anybody else want to put together a trip and see how it pans out? I got an extra kayak as well so if you need flotation we can make it happen!!!

I'd like to do the Comfort to Sisterdale trip. I have a kayak. not sure what the water level is now or will be as we enter summer.

I like the Comfort to Sisterdale trip a lot. I like the trip from Sisterdale down to 474 a lot too.

I can blame Michael too. And Mary. She got me to buy a matching kayak. And I am addicted.

Depending on when it is, I’d definitely be interested.

About how long does it take to do the Comfort to Sisterdale trip? Been eyeing this one myself.

Sorry if I'm a bad influence!

Comfort to 474 would be about 30 miles, total. I'd recommend that as a 3 day/ 2 night trip, if you're going to do it. We did Comfort to Sisterdale with water flow around 70cfs (at Comfort). I believe it was around 85cfs at that point when we did Sisterdale to 474 this past weekend. Both were doable, but that's about the minimum I'd want to run it.

What dates are you looking at?

A lot will depend on water flow, your paddling experience level, how big of a group and whether you want to fish/swim or just paddle from beginning to end. On the last trip on that stretch, 10 of us (3 first timers) paddled 6 hours on day 1 and about 5-6 on day 2.

Still waiting on your video! Also, I'm gonna have to quiz your about that stretch, about any rapid areas, that old bridge at the put in spot, and of course, the camping situation.

I'm going to try to finish up the video today...but if not it'll be next week!

In the meantime, it's a beautiful and quiet stretch of water! There are a few rapid sections, but nothing really technical (at the current river flow). A few in our group had spills on a few tricky spots. One of the kayaks got hung up on a rock and it took 4 of us to pull it out because of the water pressure! Even at 86cfs (Comfort), I don't believe there were any spots where we were required to drag the kayaks (as long as you pick the right line!) There was a spot or two where we chose to do so just to keep out of the trees.

The old 1376 bridge was no problem for us. We paddled right under. I can see where it might be a little dangerous when the water is higher, but it would be a simple portage.

There were plenty of camping spots for tent or hammocks.

When you camp along the river, do you get permission from the land owner or is it public land?
