Comfort to 474 would be about 30 miles, total. I'd recommend that as a 3 day/ 2 night trip, if you're going to do it. We did Comfort to Sisterdale with water flow around 70cfs (at Comfort). I believe it was around 85cfs at that point when we did Sisterdale to 474 this past weekend. Both were doable, but that's about the minimum I'd want to run it.

What dates are you looking at?
Well you put up with all us Hooligans so I guess it's a fair trade

I got to go pick up one of the kayaks I mentioned in corpus when I get back to Texas this weekend and check the work schedule but maybe weekend after July 4th??? Launch Friday morning and get out Sunday?

As long as your in between the mean water line of the river bed it's public. Another way I've heard it is from the vegetation line on either side of the river. Texas waterway laws are pretty thin on what's defined as Navigable Waterways

Me and some buddy's used to go to the Brazos every fall from Possum Kingdom dam , 20 miles downstream to a place called Rochells. Not really the hill country but still a good scenery and enjoyable trip with some great camping spots and decent fishing.

As was mentioned, the "bed" of the river is state property. This will not stop a landowner who doesn't understand the law from giving you a difficult time. You should be prepared to pack back up, negotiate, etc. Personally, I think having $100 cash on hand to pay him off instead of packing up and paddling at night is probably worth consideration.

That's where I'm planning on taking my son this summer.

I can see the land owners point of view even if it's not his land, the trash left behind by some people could be an issue. The cash sounds like the best way around that. I was just curious, thanks.

Anybody else want to put together a trip and see how it pans out? I got an extra kayak as well so if you need flotation we can make it happen!!!

I would be interested also depending on dates and location.

I have done several 2 night trips On the Colorado River out near Webberville. It was a nice paddle and there are multiple islands to stay on that are state property.

I’m shooting for the second weekend of July (10th-12th) and make it a two night/ three day float. Meet Friday morning, take out Sunday afternoon. I’m open to rivers but the comfort too 474 looks like a winner in my book.

I can too having two bayous run thru our place. Kayakers seldom catch any flack but I think the YT videos you see are guys trying to get a high subscription number and stir the pot. I take onion sacks to haul out more out then I bring in.

So does the weekend of the 10-12th work? Should we start a new thread or just keep it going on here? I'm definetly down for the upper Guadalupe but if another river is a good choice let's hear it.

Wife has already made plans for us that weekend, so I’d be out for sure.

How does the transportation work on getting back to the truck after two days going down river?

Be careful where you park. Best of course is enough vehicles to drop off cycle with no vehicles left at certain areas. I do much less now days but used to travel rivers a lot yesteryear and it was just park and go. Not true anymore most locations sadly. Vehicle control/protection can be a complicated part. And because mischief, land owners are rightfully getting more protective and aggressive. TBH folks can be trusted but what about he rest. Hard to blame anyone protecting from vandals and trashy folks. I am not a water front owner but understand. It can be done and I envy those cruising a peaceful stream. ENJOY and Go!

Best way would everyone meet at the launch site and then shuttle most the trucks down river and take one back to the launch. Once we take out catch a ride back too the launch and pick up those vehicles.

I've PM'd Michael on this before, so he up to speed on it but I think it important information for those that might go without someone who has done the trip before. If you are doing the Comfort to Sisterdale trip and want to camp, I'd be very hesitant to camp until I got closer to James Kiehl park and then I would camp on the left side or after the park. If you get within 1/2 a mile of the park, the land on the left is my cousins and he will not bother you if you are on the gravel beds. Any spot before that for a LONG ways, I would be very cautious. I'm not saying don't do it. Michael correct me if I am wrong, y'all do camp way before James Kiehl, correct? I'm just saying if you are approached by the landowner, just don't even bother trying to argue and for sure don't offer him $100.00! He's good people. He really is. He just doesn't agree with the laws of the state when it comes to the river! LOL Then again, you might catch him on a good day and he might offer you a beer-but I doubt it.

One other thing. If you put in at Comfort, you will very quickly come across an old "dam" of sorts. Wear life jackets and whatever you do, don't dive off of it. There is a concrete ledge under water that has claimed more than one life. Other than that, like Michael said, I think it is the prettiest stretch of water in Texas, but I am a little biased as I have been fishing/floating/kayaking that stretch since I could walk.

** Michael is also correct in that anything below 70 CFS in Comfort is probably not worth floating unless you want to do a lot of walking.

Enjoy and if you get in a bind, holler at me and if I am around I'll try and help.
