You might call the JP, apologize for the trouble you've caused and ask him to please dismiss the case.

I would not poke the bear if you know what I mean. Raising a ruckus with court. JP and or GW will not be the best outcome. As soon as the complaint come in that your complaining you bet your *** the Game Warden will make sure the ticket gets turned in. My .02. Let it play out as it may get dismissed.

I worked in the local municipality years ago and would see this a lot. Sometimes the officers take a good while to turn in their tickets. I’ve seen up to 2 months once, we would use the copy the person brought in so they could enter a plea with the judge. As far as the ticket being dismissed because it hasn’t been turned in wouldn’t happen in our court. All courts are different hopefully it gets resolved soon.

How long should this go on?
I had the same thing happen 25 yrs ago and it still hasn’t turned up. I checked on it for 6 months

You have appeared on or before the appointed time on your copy of the summons (ticket) Document this and have the JP clerk acknowledge it so they don't charge you with fail to appear. The fail to appear fines are usually higher than the ticket, at least in our court. I'd try back every month or so for a while after that.

Quite often a LEO will just toss out the ticket for a myriad of reasons, maybe just thought the young man was respectful and decided not to turn it in. Happens all the time. You do have an obligation to call the court maybe once a month for up to 6 mths just to see if the ticket was turned in, after that you can assume their is no further action needed.
I once had 2 Wardens illegally confiscate a 40" wide Muley mount and they disappeared as well as my deer head.No record ever recorded with the court.

I've prosecuted and defended a good handful of TPWD citations (and thousands of traffic citations). Once you appear by the initial required date it is the COURT'S responsibility to let you know when to come back. You should not have to continue checking in.
If you want peace of mind hire a local attorney for cheap to take care of the citation. They'll send in a letter of representation and then you can let them worry about showing up.
