is an above ground pool worth it?

My wife is hot after a pool. Someone is here trying to sell her a 10,700, 18' pool. Me, I'd just as soon get in the pond. Are above ground pools any good? I'd appreciate any info. Thanks!

More work than they're worth, IMO. I'd go with a saltwater system, if you get one though.

An above ground will give you a good test to see if you use it and can keep the chemicals right without spending that much money. We had one for about five years and decided we did not use it enough to spend the money for an in ground pool.

Thanks, I've yet to do any research but the sales lady says ionization, no chemicals. I'd be surprised to find out that is true. This is my wife's deal but I better put my nose to the grindstone or we'll waste 11 grand.

above ground is much easier to get rid of if you don't like it..

I bought a $300 pool from academy and between filters, chemicals and cleaning it...it was a full time job. The filter system was junk on it. I know someone who just got a $900 above ground oool and it has a sand filter system on it and he is having better luck keeping the chemicals right. I told my wife, the only way we are getting another pool is when we move in a few years, we can buy a house with one already in the ground.

We just got one about three weeks ago. Upgraded to sand filter, kids love it so far. I have been very pleased with clarity and how easy it has been to manage. Like said above, we wanted to have a cheap test drive to see if we really are pool people. I spent way less than you are looking at...went with one off of Amazon.

My parents have had one for 10+ years. Its nice when we're there and I never hear them complain about the maintenance or cost so it can't be that bad

Get a Walmart pool as said above. The test drive could save you a lot of money in the end.

For me personally (& I'd suspect most men), no. For the enjoyment my wife, kids and all their friends have had in it, yes.

The ionization/salt water systems are very nice. When we bought ours (15 yrs ago), it was 20% more to add that. Said no thanks and realized how inexpensive it was to add later, DIY. Not hard to install & easy to add later.

Depends. Were going to put one in next year and make it really nice with composite deck and dig it in half way. Like others said latter on if we hate it we can remove it.

Hope so. We bought one in 2001. We just bought another to replace it. My wife enjoys it so it's worth every dime to me.
