As many have said it is all going to depend on the extent of the tear and repair. Had my left shoulder done in late August and shot a deer with a 50lb draw weight bow the last weekend of December. Follow the rehab to a tee,

When I had mine surgery it was in the first week of February and I was shooting 50# by first of July.

One thing I did was I talked to my therapist and explained to them that my 2 goals were to ride my Harley in June and shoot bow in July. They gave me some additional exercises to do with big rubber bands and I am certain that helped my recovery.

AS MENTIONED ABOVE NUMEROUS TIMES, DO EXACTLY WHAT THE THERAPIST SAYS AND NOT ONE THING DIFFERENT.

They want you to get healthy as quick as you can.

        Best of luck

Thanks for the valuable info. I am hoping for no surgery but if so I will be hunting with my crossbow. Hope to know in the next week or so.

Recovery Depends what kind of shape you are in when you tear it and how old you are. I’ve had surgery on mine 3 times (both shoulders and the left twice). It hurts like a mother to get it fixed. First two times, I was young like 21 and I was in serious shape as a gymnast. Took maybe three weeks before I could sleep through the night, and maybe two to three months before I was living life normally. The last one was when I was 34 I think. It took about twice as long on every front. Take your pain meds. Do what the Rehab people tell you to the letter. I need to have it done again, my right shoulder is torn once again but I can’t bring myself to have the surgery again. I’m scared of hurting.

I tore mine 4 years ago. After reading tons of horror stories of having to have multiple surgeries because the first didn't work and horror stories about recovery time, I opted to do 2 injections and PT. I did PT for 6 weeks and did it at home on my own for a year, I also started taking Glucosamine. Today the shoulder I tore is as strong or stronger than the other.

Before surgery, ask if stem cell injection is an option. I had a minor tear in my right rotator cuff. I still couldn’t draw back a bow or lift my arm for crap. I went to Burke Orthopedics in Pearland, TX. Highly recommend them.

The stem cell injection wasn’t infant stem cell, it was amniotic fluid stem cells. The one shot cost me $1700 but had almost no recovery time. He wanted me to get right on my bow, but I was scared to cause further injury so I bought a crossbow for the season.

The rotator cuff surgery would’ve been covered by insurance but required an extended rehab and recovery time.

Wierd thing is that if it is actually torn it is not keeping me from pulling my bow at the moment. All the pain is from shoulder height and higher. Front to back motion doesn't hurt yet.

An ortho will be able to pinpoint the problem in just a few moments. An MRI will show how bad it is..

I would get the crossbow now and make sure you had help loading and hanging the deer this fall.
I was still shooting Bow with Both Rotator Cuffs repaired BUT a Motorcycle accident in 2017 Took out my Left Clavicle and 8 ribs. I went with an Excalibur Crossbow.

I tore mine about ten years ago. I went the physical therapy route instead of surgery. I regret it for years. After missing several physical therapy appointments and not taking it seriously I just quit going. That was one of the worst mistakes I have done. It took over 5 years to get it to 90%. And I know I will pay for it somemore as I get older. I wish I had listened to the doctor. So, my advice is follow your doctors advice. Don’t be me!

I had surgery in May of 2011 and shot 2 doe in October with a long bow.
Had surgery again in August 2019. I'm thinking about skipping this upcoming bow season. Doctor and Physical Therapist both say it can take as long as a year for full recovery. It's been 10 months and my shoulder is not yet 100%.
                                Everyone's shoulder injury is different.

Everyone else has given great advice, here's my advice,
Do not rush physical therapy! You can not rush how fast your body heels.
