I had a flooring company bid to do some floor prep work in my current house. They gave me a bid. I accepted it. They told me they would come in a particular day, and stay until the job was finished. They came, did about half the work, and left. The next day, the owner called me up and said if I didn’t pay him another $500, they weren’t coming to finish the job. He also told me that bits for one of his machines were very expensive, and this job was dulling his bits, with an attitude like he was trying to make it seem like it was my fault!!!!! I was between a rock and a hard place, as I had other workers coming in right after the flooring guys. I paid it. I was so pizzed I couldn’t stand it! I will never do business with those thieves again!!!!!!!
Bill, you are OK, as long as you didn’t know you were taking advantage of the dealership when the deal was struck!!!!

Man that sucks. I'm in that type of business. Sounds like he used the wrong tooling on your floor.
Sold a used car several years ago - car was probably 10 years old 110,000 miles. I try to be as honest as can be on condition & anything (I know of) something like that needs.
I probably got an average selling price.
The buyer messages me a few days later after he'd taken it to his mechanic. He had a detailed list, with prices, for everything it needed done to it, and several things it didn't need.
Buyer wants to split the cost with him.
Politely told him, No. Seemed very scam like - had to wonder how many cars the guy had bought this way and how many buyers ever sent him a check.
In this day & age, you just never know what the other guy is really up to.
Ethics...in general you shouldn’t have to ask/debate your ethics, that being said dealerships stick it to people all the time. I’ve wondered how much it actually cost to build a car/truck at a factory. I’m sure it’s way less then what is paid. Your an ethical guy who dealt with unethical people.
And to the original question, there would be several questions I would need answered from the dealer, before I would even consider sending money (not that I'd be that likely to do so anyway).
1) Show me what they paid for the bed. Don't care what they charge - markup could be 100%.
2) Show me what they paid for the truck. Don't care about an invoice, what did they really pay. They have a record somewhere & it could be less than they want you to believe.
3) Did they make money on truck? Did they break even on truck?
4). Did they make money off of me from financing and/or extended warranty.
What would you do if you made the mistake?? Remember some one is watching and it isn't Santa Clause
Booyah!!! You nailed that one. Heck, I even geaux back into stores when I notice they missed a item. The folks are eternally grateful at having someone being honest. I have also had a national retail store call the security chief as they thought I was running a scam......such a sad state of affairs we are in as a society.
The car stories thread got me thinking about what happened with my current vehicle that I bought a few years ago. The dealer forgot to add in charge for the CM skirted flatbed which is 8-10k option. I thought I made a really good deal on the truck which ended up being what a cab and chassis cost. Anyways they called a few weeks after I bought the truck and was fishing to see if I’d pony up any money which I didn’t. I still feel a little guilty about it curious to see what anyone else would have done in my shoes?
The last Tacoma I bought was cheap. I said I will take it. Doing the paperwork I mentioned using the 4X4 and the manager says it does not have 4X4. I said yes it does. He sold it to me at the price on the sticker. It was easily 5K off..........
