Montgomery county will not register as homemade without all the receipts for the material. The inspector will laugh at you in Montgomery county. You have to register it in the county you reside in. My son bought a boat and trailer off here from an estate sale, no title. Took 7 trips to dmv, with affidavits from the estate, pics of license of seller, dps inspection, weighing it twice, more paperwork from the estate. It was a nightmare. Good luck.

False. I walked in with no paperwork of any kind and walked out with a home made trailer registration in 20 mins plates and all.

Sometimes the deal seems almost worth the hassle and was curious just how much of a hassle it really is? Anyone that doesn't respond to my title question or says they are not the original owner get a easy pass but this guy says he is the owner and just cannot find the title unfortunately. With me possibly getting this thing at half price from it being new I'm kicking the idea around.

Buying in Harris county for reference and if he actually is the owner of the trailer what all would I need to do to transfer this sucker in my name? Is a bill of sale sufficient then off to the DMV?

Just bought a Can-am from Justin so now the trailer part is here and I am completely new to it.

        Thanks guys.
I just bought a brand new trailer on Saturday. The dealership asked if I wanted to buy it with or without the title. It was $28 more for the title, but went ahead and did it. Just register as home made like said or take your license plate off another trailer and use it.....But unsure how you go about transferring from one person to the next without a title.

Utility trailers don’t have a title! Mine is a dual 3500#(7000#GVWR), and it has no title.

All you need is a bill of sale, and any current registration info(license plate #, registration receipt) if it is available.

Get a bill of sale for the trailer just because then go have it registered as home made. Just did that in Houston county last month.

2014 car hauler has a title and my last 3 trailers both had titles.

But, you should be able to register trailer as "homemade", have weight on trailer set at 4000 lbs, purchase a plate and registration. I live in Denton county for clarification.

Fair warning, all offices are closed as I am mailing a form for a lost license plate and registration fee.

I’ve got a 16’ trailer I bought new in 2008 from Temples Trailers and it doesn’t have a title.
