His comment was about the new .30 Remington AR. He said it would provide .308 performance in the standard AR-15.

Remington Arms just introduced a new cartridge, the 30 Remington AR (aka 30 RAR), to be used in AR-platform rifles to be built by its DPMS subsidiary. (Remington, DPMS, and Bushmaster are all owned by Cerberus Capital Management, a private holding company.) The cartridge carries the short, fat design to the extreme.

        I'd like me a .458 Socom.

I have a DPMS LR-308. It requires a 308 lower to go with the 308 upper. It is a good size bigger than the AR-15 lower.

You can try ordering straight from DPMS. I ordered some stuff from them last month and they said they were out of stock and would ship when they got it back in stock. 2 weeks later I had it at my front door. Good luck finding them in stock other places. You can try MidwayUSA and put your name on the list for them to email you when it comes in stock. That is where I got my upper from.

You are correct Mike. the 458 socom does fit the standard 5.56 lower. But have you looked at the ballistics of it yet? Big bullet but it is slow. Just my .02 worth.

I have one of DPMS LR 308 and I love it. Just wish they produced a .257 souper upper. They do make a .243 upper that fits the .308 lower and also a .260 upper.

If you are wanting to keep your AR 15 lower but want more knockdown for hogs, check out the 6.8 spc. I have one on the way

Or even better than that, look into the 6.5 Grendel. It fits in a standard 5.56 lower as well.
