    Snake Bite

My adult daughter got bit on the hand by a copperhead yesterday. Spent 8 hours in the er and seems to be recovering well. Just a heads up be careful where you put your hands and feet. They are active now. She was cleaning out a flower bed.

That has to be painful. I feel for her. Next door neighbor was bit by one last week. They held off on antivenin for a while then gave it to her ( shes maybe 65? ) and she had a bad reaction to it. Last ai heard she is ok, but not fun at all

Curious if you dont mind ...how long after she got bit did she start to feel the venom? What did it feel like and how painful was it ?

Apparently reactions to the antivenom are not uncommon. On my daughter they monitored the swelling as it went up her arm. Once it reached her elbow they started the antivenom. I understand the antivenom is very expensive. So perhaps they don't give antivenom until it is apparent it is required. I understand they also check your blood to determine how much venom you received. My daughter was bitten by smaller snake, about 12 inches long which is good and bad. Smaller snake equals less venom available but juvenile snakes tend to inject the whole load. Adult snakes bite just to tell you to get out of their space. They know they can't eat you so may either inject minimal venom or none at all.

                          Prayers up for your daughter.

I got bit on the finger by a copperhead years ago, also while working in a flower bed. Most intense pain I ever felt...and it was immediate.

Don't know how long before she felt the venom. I do know it was very painful and my daughter is no wuss. She jacked up her knee several years ago and waited a week before she went to the dr. Needed plates and screws to repair. She got two shots of morphine at the hospital and was still feeling some discomfort.

Well he appears to have mortal wounds but is not decapitated yet.
