Absolutely. Texas produces enough to trade for any shortcomings. It's not like Texas would be surrounded by hostile enemies. With the agricultural land and the seaports, Texas could make it even without the oil. I could see Texas economy improving under state management as opposed to the "one size fits all" way the Federal government manages it.

Have to buy agriculture from Mexico still. Also probably have to relocate a lot of snowflakes that we have imported

          Yep

            My point exactly.

Unfortunately it would never happen. You'd have to export the generational welfare rats who refuse to work and follow biblical principles for taking care of family. We no longer have the stomach for that.

You wouldn’t have to export them. You would just have to stop providing the free lunch, and they would export themselves. Hell, it would even be worth it to the populous to pay the bus fare.

The USA doesn't need TX to leave, we need to kick CA out. Maybe a few of the NE states too.

We are too soft now. About 120 years ago we was closer to being self sufficient than now.

Lot's were mothballed, but have since been permanently decommissioned and sold for scrap. Also, those plants were mothballed due to EPA regulations. And I would bet Texas EPA would be as bad as the Federal EPA, meaning these plants would need some serious retrofits in order to start up.

It will be a long time before Texas can generate enough power to power itself.
This is false, Ercot is a stand alone grid for Texas and does not import or export power from any other state. It is the only state in the lower 48 with it's own grid.

Many plants were shut down for economical reasons due to natural gas prices being low causing Mw prices to be low. Yes, some of these plants were not worth the investment to be EPA compliant, but the majority of them were shut down because they didn't add to the bottom line of the company anymore.

                            From Ercot's web site:

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to more than 26 million Texas customers -- representing about 90 percent of the state’s electric load.

                              Define "self Sufficient".

I sure we could handle anything we are dealt with. Would life as we know it today be the same? probably not.

It is amazing what they have done with their resources. No, do Modern Texans have to resolve to make their own country and fight for it and make it a success. I doubt it.
Israel would exist if we didnt back them... who do you think is building that big beautiful wall over there...
