Could Texas be self sufficient?

Not that I think it will ever happen. But, with all our resources in Texas could Texas be self sufficient if we were to ever secede?

I have always said we should take over Mexico then secede and create our own country and call it Texico. I really believe we could do it.

I read this 10 years or so ago, is it still true? I assume we would have gone up or down in that amount of time...still pretty awesome

I doubt it. Just because texas has one of the strongest economies in the world, how much federal money does texas receive?
