If things got that bad it wouldn't take that long. The first night I went to bed hungry would be the last. Anything made out of meat would be getting shot.

By that point you will be shooting people on site, because they will have fled the metro areas by the millions, hunting food.
Droves of wild society combing the land for anything edible.
Not to mention, way before we get to that point, game wardens will have quit enforcing the law.
He may show up at your fire with 4 bald eagle drumsticks for trade.

Drinkin water, a knife, fire and a baseball bat is all I'd realistically need if I was ever that bad off. At that point I'd think the game warden would be out lookin for food too.

A friend of mine (now passed on) was cutting brush on his farm in north west Missouri in late January when a spike buck came by him. He said it stumbled and broke it's neck. I said Gomer you know it isn't deer season? He said hell Gary I feed them year round and I'll kill one for the freezer when I want.
Miss that old fella.

Some of you would bail off your high horse real fast if it was a real life decision and not a hypothetical
If I get hungry I am shooting whatever edible animal gives me the first opportunity
Shoot a rabbit first?
I see more deer than rabbits here so I am not letting a deer walk by, but I am not letting a rabbit have a pass if it comes along first either
I would most likely let a nasty ol possum have a pass and hope for something better though
