Yup. You won’t have to ask that question for sure.

Second question; How many days do I come home empty handed with the bow before I can switch to the rifle without being ridiculed?

My Grandpa was a Game Warden, he helped more than one poacher skin a deer. He had a knack for knowing who was feeding a family and who was just a POS. Hopefully some still know

The question would be how lazy were you before you got that hungry? Did you try and plant anything? Did you try and shoot rabbits?

Or did you sit around drinking beer in a lawn chair waiting for things to get better and after you ran out of food said screw it I'm shooting a deer?

Lazy? Feeding your family is a priority. Waiting 45 days for a tomato to grow ain’t gonna cut it.

In the situation provided and we're in a (somewhat) of a doomsday scenario, I don't think shooting a deer is realistic. Deer provide 715 calories per pound. You only need about 3-4 lbs of deer meat to get a day's worth, but you're getting 10-15 meals from one deer and you won't be able to save the rest. In a scenario where there isn't food, I imagine there isn't electricity, either.

Second, I'm not giving my spot away with a rifle in a similar situation. I'd much rather go after small game with a 22 or bow.

But yes - when the police stop caring. I remember that movie with Brad Pitt in a doomsday scenario...Was it World War Z? He shoots someone to protect his family while a mass is looting a grocery story/pharmacy. A cop was running at him... so he held his gun up in the air. However, the cop ran past him. At this point, I would say laws don't really matter anymore.

The only thing people are worried about in Wilson county is toilet paper.

I think most would feed their family in any way they could. deer or hogs, protein is protein. If times got that bad for the general population, i would think law enforcement would be busy with other issues.
The increase in the deer populations in the last century has been due to less of the population having a sustenance hunting lifestyle.

Make every effort to stay between the lines of the law while hunting. But if my family is hungry (if it ever comes to that) they will eat.

I have known a few older ranchers in Mills county that killed deer, on their property, year around for protein. This was in the late 50's and early 60's in Mills county. Nobody thought anything about it back then. Just feeding your family.
