is spray foam insulation worth it?

Some of you may have seen a few of my posts that my wife and I are in the process of finalizing our decisions on roughly a 2200 sqft new house build. My question is this, those of you with spray foam insulation is it worth it???

Did you see utilities drop a little, a lot, do you save a good amount of money each month, etc. Anything y'all can personally say about it I am willing to hear.

We just built a new home and had it spray foamed. Similar in size to what you're looking at. Live in San Antonio and have found that the house stays around 70-74 degrees without running the heat or air so far. Just moved in the beginning of Feb.

Yes it is. It's hard to stomach the initial cost but it pays off everyday. We remodeled our house and added a second floor. We used spray foam in the addition and added solar panels. In total, we added over 1600 sq ft, another central AC unit and another electric water heater for their bathroom. Our electric bill about the same every month as it was before the addition. Partially due to solar panels and the insulation being more energy efficient.

It is a must near the coast.
R-6 is all that is required on your ac duct insulation,
When you have an attic at 130 degrees and 90% humidity 9 months out of the year you will have sweating ducts. Then you will have mold.

If it is a home you plan on owning for a long stretch of time, it is most definitely worth it. My father had it done in his house along with building it out of rock. His home is 2 story and roughly 3k sq ft. He has never had an electric bill over 125 a month.

Really depends on how long you plan to be in the home. If it’s your forever home then I’d say go for it. If you’re planning to flip in a few years, you won’t recover your investment.

When I read all of the posts about people commenting on their utility bills with spray foam I thought no way.

We moved into our newly built home in February of 2017. The heated and cooled square footage is slightly over 3000. We keep our heat on 64 and ac on 68. Our highest utility bill has been 194.00. Our stove top and hot water heater is on propane.

We had our house built here in SA in 2016 with spray foam insulation. Keep the house a/c on 72 during waking hours and 70 at night. Heat is on 70 all the time. 1850 sq ft 1 story. Highest bill I’ve ever had is $180 in the dog days of summer.
