    Water Softener

I come here for recommendations on everything else, so what brand of water softener do I want? Will be mounted outside, but covered/insulated if that matters at all. Thanks

We just had a Westinghouse softener and filtration system put in out home about 3 months ago, made a huge difference in taste of water and quality. My son also has eczema bad during dry winter days and this has completely eliminated this issue so far. Basically no maintenance but add salt every 3-4 months to the system. Also lifetime warranty on the entire system and if you move they move it for you to your new place.

13 years ago bought a water softener, GE?, from sams. Dead within 3 years. Ordered a Fleck online for almost the same price. Have had zero issues in 10 years.

I'm in Houston so if you want to tackle two of them I'll help you install yours and vice versa?

Get a Fleck. They dont have a bunch of fancy buttons or settings they just work. Keep them full of salt and forget about it.

I'm at the beginning stages of looking at this as well. House is under construction and I'm in the middle of putting together a pvc header so I can run a soft and hard water line to the house. Soft for all interior water, hard for the outside hose bibs. Next step will be to get the water tested to determine hardness and seek the opinion of the local plumber who I trust for a system that will fit my needs.

The ones we sell here in SA are made by Nelson. Also have had good luck with Morrison softeners.
Pretty simple calculations to determine the size you need if you know how hard your water is.
Stay away from the box store cabinet-model junk.

5 years ago I bought a GE from Lowe's for somewhere around $400... works great and have had no issues. All my shower glass is still clear.

I am on septic with spray fields and all the big marketed guys stopped by while we were constructing claiming the salt softeners will salt the ground and no grass will grow where they spray... wrong, where they spray is the greenest thickest grass.

I went with a Pelican System. No salt or power required. Has worked good so far.
