Coyotes are native animals that have spread across the country as a direct result of us trying to control them so killing them has been the best thing that could have happened to their species.

Even so it's still morally and ethically bankrupt to purposefully be cruel to them.

So are you for or against traps and snares, shooting just to kill them or.....

I have no problem with trapping so long as the regs are followed and traps are checked regularly to dispatch the animals. Footholds properly used don't do permanent damage and non target animals can be released. Conibears kill outright so if properly used then I have no problem with that.

I'm torn on snares, if they are secured and checked regularly that's one thing but I've personally killed a hog that broke off a snare and had it on it's snout for so long that it had eaten into the bone, it was pretty emaciated, no living creature should be purposefully made to suffer like that.

As far as killing coyotes just to kill them, it's counterproductive to reducing their populations (which isn't even up for debate scientifically) so as long as it's done as quickly as possible it's not something i'm interested in doing but it is what it is. Gut shooting any animal on purpose is just a chickenshat thing to do

Following the guidelines that modern recreational hunting and conservation is founded on is something PETA would do?

Does that make sense to you?

Man I'm really trying to wrap my mind around how someone can equate not being purposefully cruel to creatures we are hunting to anything PETA represents. It's just beyond a stupid thing to say...

Well you are judging a fellow hunter regarding a useless, non-native animal. Only good hog is a dead hog. Where does the line get drawn in what is "cruel" and what is not. Actually I don't view myself as hunter when shooting a hog but more so as a rancher/farmer protecting my investment.

Just because an animal roots which is it's natural thing to do doesn't mean it knows it's pissing you off.. Geez.

I hate raccoons more than just about anything but I still wouldn't intentionally make them suffer and/or not care at all if I made one suffer.

This is exactly what anti-hunters think about most hunters. That they don't care.. And you're proving them correct.
I don’t sell hog hunts, but you do. That kinda makes you biased doesn’t it ? I don’t give a **** if a hog doesn’t “know” he’s destroying my place. A mosquito doesn’t “know” he’s aggravating the hell out of you either, but you slap him anyway. I know hogs destroy by rooting, I know the land is mine, paid for by the sweat of my brow, not yours, and the law says I can shoot him, so that’s exactly what I do, and I don’t plan to change because it somehow offends you.

I need the coyotes to eat all the dead pigs laying around. They get a free pass unless they are in the yard.

Yes, technically a pig is not a game animal. Did God put him on this planet, yep, then he was put here for our consumption. You dont like pigs, dont blame you. To just gut shoot an animal in general is just plain WRONG. To shoot one, then let it lay to me is even worse. I shoot it, clean it, take it to processor, then give it away to those whom want it. Yep, my cost, but I'm celebrating what God provided, not wasting it. Bash away boys, you guys have lots of opinions, just like me. . . .For those about to say it, Yes I do own land, yes they tear up land. We trap them, kill them, process them, eat or give them away.

The way I look at it, you do what you want, not my business unless it directly affects me. How you kill pigs doesn't affect me so do what you will.

And they’re a pain to drag off when you shoot a bunch of them out of a group. But I don’t see animals the way most people do so that might be a difference as well. Every farmer/rancher I know guy shoots them so they’ll run in woods and die and not in their fields to tear up farm equipment if they run over them. Animals have more rights than humans these days and it’s sad
I don't think anyone cares that it gets shot. I've accidentally wounded pigs before and will take marginal shots that I wouldn't take on deer.

That being said, intentionally wounding something is wrong. If you had a farmer tell you that a dead pig is tearing up his equipment I bet he laughed all week at the city boy that believed that. I have been operating a tractor since I was tall enough to push in the clutch. I have NEVER operated any equipment a dead pig would tear up. Heck even a hay rake would roll over it fine, might get some gore on it.

Most folks that own land. Feel the way you do, in my experience.

This. I honestly don't care much. Wounding a pig on purpose is a personal decision that has ZERO bearing on my life.

I only commented on this thread because it is an internet forum that depends on people expressing their opinion. I can't imagine being friends with someone that intentionally wounded an animal in real life though. Not the kinda folks I want to be around.

I killed a 200# boar last Nov and he was just fine. Dropped him in his tracks with a 30-30 and quartered with in an hour. Funny how people will tell me you can't eat a boar. My wife had no problem with his meat either.

Even though they're a pain in the butt I don't kill em and leave them.
