I have one on the wall that I always wanted to fix but never have done it. He broke both drop tines off and I have been thinking about fixing them for the last 30 years

      Yall's opinion?

Just for reference, I am requested to rebuild a point on about 1 out of 25 deer. I had one guy request I rebuild, and I did, a main beam with a G3 and 4 !!!
Personally I have not on any of my mounts.

If I had a pic of him, sure I’d fix it.
          He grew it.

When a buck with a broke tine comes up in conversation...what’s the first thing that comes out of the shooters mouth?
How big he was before he was broke..
Just fix it and spare us the story.

Yes, absolutely, I fix them. The first buck was just a nice 8 pt, but it was his longest point (g2) that he broke off - had pictures. He looks a lot better with it than without. Taxidermist did a good job on it. She didn't charge a lot & it's just an antler mount.

Next one was (my only) 12 pt that had broken off 3 points. Again, had pictures, and was very disappointed that he'd broken them off. He was easily the nicest buck around that year. I left it alone for years, but finally bought the antler sculpt and did it myself. My job wasn't as good as the taxidermist, but I'm still pretty happy with it. I like him a lot better as a 12 pt than a 9 pt. No regrets on rebuilding them.

In years since, I've added back a point here and there. It is kind of a fun little hobby in & of itself. The hardest part is painting the new antler point - getting the color to match the rest of the rack.

I did one this year - turned 7 pt back to 8 pt - and I have to look close to tell it is a rebuild. On this one, I'd say I did a better job than that 1st one I had the taxidermist do. But I have had some practice since.

I just like them better with what they grew as opposed to what was left when I shot them. I have no desire to make them better than what they grew - just the same.

And I don't get a lot of heads mounted - most are just the European mount.

It’s your deer. Do what you want.

Thinking about having mine fixed this year just for the heck of it. Have plenty of TC pics to get it done right imo.
