Looks like we may only be a year or so from a recovery......

While sentiment in the oil market is undeniably bearish, Goldman Sachs sees a major oil price rally on the horizon

Younger brother is in the Permian and he says everything is just fine. Seeing nothing but the usual slowdown that happens this time every year.

We sold off the pipeline side of our business at just the right time, this annual slump is hitting pretty hard, with a political turmoil year ahead (elections) I haven't heard much optimism for much of a ramp up for next year.

I rode the Pathfinder from Nigeria to Malabo back in 2007 I think. I went down there to work on the PHM.

I don't miss Africa a whole lot I worked on a number of rigs offshore in 2006 -2008 then ended up in Algeria and Tunisia in 2015- 2017 working for Weatherford's drilling division. Back in GOM now but wishing someone would build some rigs!

Man, I wish some rigs would show up in the GoM too, but with $50 oil, it ain't likely to happen any time soon, especially deep water...

Things are still slow on the manufacturing side of the oilfield over here

laid off another sales guy and a manager from up north at our Edmonton facility - end of year slump in full effect plus a down market is putting all the managers on edge and making them super cranky lol

I guess scrapping eqpt is a sign they dont expect a comeback any time soon?

In previous market slumps, fracers parked unused equipment to await a revival in demand, but this time it’s different: Gear is being stripped down for parts or sold for scrap.

Scrapping inventory happens all the time.

True. But the way its worded seems to indicate its more than the usual scrapping

HOUSTON (Bloomberg) - The downturn in shale drilling has been so steep and brisk that oilfield companies are taking the unprecedented step of scrapping entire fleets of fracing gear.

With almost half of U.S. frac firepower expected to be sitting idle within weeks, shale specialists including Patterson-UTI Energy Inc. and RPC Inc. are retiring truck-mounted pumping units and other equipment used to shatter oil-soaked shale rock. Whereas in previous market slumps, fracers parked unused equipment to await a revival in demand, this time it’s different: Gear is being stripped down for parts or sold for scrap.
