The "Golden Triangle" of South Texas

The hotbed of big buck production in Texas is situated within an irregular triangular-shaped area referred to as the golden triangle. The triangle encompasses all land within a region defined by Eagle Pass east to Cotulla, south to Laredo, with the Rio Grande River representing its western border. Counties within this area, including Dimmit, LaSalle, Maverick, Zavala, and Webb, are nationally recognized for their trophy buck-producing potential. Actually, Webb and Dimmit Counties are recognized as the all-time number one and two record book buck producing counties throughout the United States according to the Boone and Crockett ClubLast edited by Pablo Honey; 02-17-2009, 03:44 PM.

I've always thought of it as something like this...
Genetics and habitat vary over that entire area... and go outside of it as well... but historically before feed, before fences, before people started introducing genetics... that was where the best deer were.
I hesitated to include Maverick because typically... Lasalle, Webb and Dimmit had the largest deer... but it is hard to include the majority of Dimmit and make it a triangle... if you don't include part of Maverick...Last edited by Encinal; 02-17-2009, 04:31 PM.

Unless you want to believe this...

"The Covert Ranch is located within the 1.5 million acres which was first named the Golden Triangle in 1990. It is an area of the South Texas Plains lying within a triangle drawn from Laredo north to Cotulla, and west to Eagle Pass and back to Laredo. In fact, the Covert Ranch is located in an area within the Golden Triangle and is part of what I would now call “The Platinum Quadrangle”, which is 200,000 acres of native brush land bounded by Farm to Market Road 133 to the north, US Interstate Highway 35 to the east, Texas State Highway 44 to the south and US Highway 83 to the west. Among most knowledgeable people, this red sandy loam stretch of land is considered to be “the best of the best” for whitetail deer. And on top of that, the Covert Ranch is blessed with abundant subsurface water resources which have been developed to create a virtual oasis in this semi-arid environment."

The Las Raices Ranch is located within the roughly 1.5 million acre "Golden Triangle", the 200,000 acre "Platinum Quadrangle" and entirely consists of what I now like to call the ~4200 acre "Rhodium Asymmetrical Decagon"
It's all semantics... you can grow big deer anywhere if you put your mind to it...
