    Best brand of lump charcoal?

Is there any brand of lump charcoal that is all or mostly large chunks? I am learning that with my new kamado grill it is important to use large pieces especially on the bottom of the charcoal pile. If you cover the grate with small pieces it restricts airflow and makes it more difficult to regulate temperature. The bag of lump my wife brought home is at least half small stuff.

B&B seemed to be a overall favorite ^^^^^^ and my last bag I bought was B&B. I agree with the rest of them. Good stuff and large chunks.

I've heard the Fogo brand is very good but I've never splurged for it, high $$. I have been using the B&B lump lately and have been very pleased with it. Royal Oak was hit and miss for me on size.

Ive been using B&B for years. I want to get down to Luling and get a 55 gallon drum full. Have heard its quite a bit cheaper buying it direct in bulk

I have always had good luck with Royal Oak. When I first got my BGE ~10 years ago the research I saw all recommended Royal Oak. With that said things can always change with companies, especially over 10 yrs, but I haven't had a reason to change

I’ve had mixed results with B&B. My Lowe’s carries Kamado XL lump charcoal and it has been the best burn I’ve gotten out of my Kamado to date. Consistent temp through the entire 7 hour burn. I’m really happy with it.

My experience with B&B is you have a better change of large chunks if you buy the 20-40# bags. The smaller bags will have smaller chunks.

Cowboy Lump is the best I can get up here.
Find the best hardwood lump charcoal and briquets for grilling and smoking for authentic wood-grilled flavor. Shop Cowboy Charcoal charcoal, pellets, and sauces.

                  I won't use anything but B&B.

B&B. The overpriced Green Egg charcoal is pretty good too.

There is a lot of info on the naked whiz site for charcoal reviews. I try to stick with either the B&B or Royal Oak brands. I will venture out and try something new every once in a while. I picked up Cowboy last year on a closeout at Home Depot for $1 per bag. It was fair at best. It was loaded with stick lumber pieces, 1x3, 1x4 material, rocks and white woven feed sack pieces. It sparked like a firework when trying to light, popping all over the place.

One thing I have done is make a sieve for my lump bucket. I will run it through and remove all the dust and small pieces and toss that out so I am only dealing with gumball and larger size pieces of charcoal.

The best..Fogo. yes it is more expensive but it has huge chunks that last.

The BGE brand used to be good but since moving to TX, it has been hard for me to find.
