I watched this movie the other day and it amazes me how accurate it is. It is about the senior class of 1977 as they end their junior year/last day of school in 1976. I graduated in 1977 and almost everything in the movie is spot on except the pot smoking. I do not remember seeing and did not participate in any pot smoking even though I know it did happen. There were lots of keg parties I went to since I lived in a college town(Tarleton State). The video below show an El Camino they are sitting on and a guy in shop class making a paddle. I drove a 1970 El Camino my senior year and took shop class my junior and senior year where we actually built a brick home that we sold and stands till this day. The movie also shows the distrust for high school football coaches one of the players has and will not sign the contract the coaches wants all of the players to sign. I have some of those same feelings about my coaches in high school after blowing out my knee and not being able to play any longer, but I will not get into that. The music in the movie is all of the same music I listened back in the day and most of it is still popular. Most of the haircuts were accurate as well but I will not be posting any of those.

It's a great flick...I was 10 years later in 88 but you can equally relate & that's including the dope. Living along the border if you wanted some it was easier to obtain than booze, although that too was never a factor having mexico 15 minutes away so the change of buying age to 21 was not an issue.
Our coaches wanted us to sign a similar agreement but got shot down quick as the entire team was mostly against it & never gained traction. I know a bunch of folks who didn't enjoy their high school days, but are some of the fondest memories for me. We had a very tight class & our reunions get funner every decade.

I graduated in 74. Not in Austin, but that was fairly accurate to N. Mesquite in 74. Enjoyed the movie, might have cause flashbacks. We didn't have moon towers, but we had plenty of places to party. And on Jan. 1st 1974, the drinking age went to 18. I didn't turn 18 til April, but we had been buying beer at a Shamrock station on Carroll avenue for over a year at that point, so it didn't affect us very much. For the life of me I don't know why, but for us it was Schlitz Malt Liquor tallboys. Could be the guy at the store sold it to us minors because he couldn't sell it to anybody else.

I went to high school with a lot of the actors in the movie. Before the film, I was in a school play with the girl who played Sabrina. It took me all semester to ask her out on a date. We went to eat and movie. Zero chemistry.
But much to my wife’s dismay, every time that movie comes on I proudly point out that I went on one date with that girl.
