Spell check! I'm in Corp Communications and if I receive a resume with a misspelled word, it goes in the trash. And I'm a terrible speller- details matter though.
Also for you young guys (and maybe some old), clean up your social media pages. I check those immediately after resumes. People have lost out on interviews because of their Facebook page.

I've had to write and re-write mine over the past several years, thanks to industries down-sizing and other things.
Anyway, never write a resume over 2 pages and if AT ALL POSSIBLE, keep it to 1 page! I had a professional service to help me write my first one and their advice was very valuable. If you bore a job screener orof interviewer with too many details, you don't have a chance. Be VERY familiar with everything in your resume and have someone practice asking you questions from it. Make sure all of your paragraphs and other indents line up on the page. Some docs will re-space everything when you print it or save to certain job sites and it will look like a mess.
Yes, you can't spellcheck enough either!
Good luck.

Highly suggest you have a company work with you on building a resume. There are bots/automated systems that scan resumes and kick out bad ones based on format/wording. Submitting and creating resumes are not as easy as it once was.Last edited by yotethumper; 06-24-2019, 12:32 PM.

Every resume needs to be different and they should all depend on the job that you're applying for. Best tip: look at the description of the job and the requirements and base your points off that. If it says "Two years experience using X," somewhere on that resume you need have "I have X years of experience using X."
2nd best tip: spell check.
3rd best tip: have someone else look it over.
If you want to send it to me when you're done, I'd be more than happy to have a look at it. Just PM me and I can send you my email.
