I-10 all the way 349 to Iraan to Rankin to Midland. I drive there from San Antonio every couple of months for work and that is about as fast and simple as it gets.

Stay home!!!! Once you cross that imaginary line that designates the Permian Basin people get full on idiot disease and only gets worse as you go west. That's all I got, haven't made that trip in many many moons.

I drive to midland 5x plus a month from San Antonio. Depends if I want to go to midland or Odessa. Midland, I-10 to Ozona then up 137 to 158 then into midland. Oilfield traffic is bad on 137 from big lake to 158 stop light. Or sometime I’ll go I-10 to 349 thru Iraan and rankin into midland. Oilfield traffic is way worse on 349 from Midkiff turnoff to midland. The red lighted on 349 are backed up bigtime all day long.
If odessa, I-10 to 190 then left on 305 thru McCamey onto 385 on into Odessa. Hardly any traffic that way but i20 is a nightmare in that area bc of traffic and lane closures all day long.

            So pick your poison lol

You would be better off flying and getting a rental car. Traffic is worse in West Texas than ever before. 100-150 trucks on the road between Rankin and Midland.

When I went to midland few weeks I took 290 to Austin then went through Llano to San Angelo then 87 to 158 right into midland. Very little traffic once I got past Austin and it no oilfield traffic until I got about half an hour outside midland.

It was a nicer drive I thought then I-10 since it was mostly back roads. There was some construction but I didn’t have any delays.

Whichever goes to San Angelo up to Big Springs then over. It avoids the most oilfield traffic

Oilfield traffic isn’t any worse than what you drive in Houston every day, don’t let that scare you. I’d personally go thru college station, Waco, hit I-20 in eastland then it’s a straight shot down 20

This. We used to drive midland to San Antonio almost every weekend and this was the route we would take. It might be a few minutes longer but it’s a nicer easier drive with better places to stop along the way. You also won’t lose cell and radio service like you will if you take the ozone/big lake route.

You will lose service if you have Verizon from west of Llano to west of Eden.
