Skunks??

Are the skunks in full rut or something? Seems like I’ve seen more dead on the road in the last week than I’ve ever seen.

Skunk rut is typically end of February. So first days of March ain’t far off.

I killed 15 at the dairy one night in high school. My dad called back home (before cell phones) and wanted to know what the @&$% went on out there last night . It would burn your eyes for 2 days on the property

They seem to get out to find new den sites before the rut I guess cause I've trapped 15 in the last 6 weeks from under my house and outbuildings.

In 1982, I lived in Alvord and went to NTSU in Denton.
It was about this time of year, and I counted 29 fresh dead skunks, on HW 380, between Decatur and Denton. That was more than 1 per mile.

I've caught 3 in 2 weeks.
Still got another one patrolling about twice a week i need rid of.
