    Rock or possible artifact identification

I found these rocks years ago while out hunting. They were in an area where a pond was being dug so no telling how deep they originally were. Naturally I couldn’t pass them up.

If you are close to a college or university with a Geology department, take them by and let someone look at them.

I might be way off here but I remember reading an article or post about someone finding similar looking stones in the Livingston area. Ended up possibly being gastroliths or stomach stones. Type that into the googler and see if you find something close.

These are most likely natural iron concretions. Nature is fascinating.

Iron nodules that have been weathered and rounded by water (creek or river) most likely. Very cool just the same.

I’ve done some reading. I’m not saying it is this but they do resemble some of the balls in the picture. Supposedly the earliest shot was made of stone then later different metals were used .

I can ID one of them, but the other two have me stumped.

Don't remember he proper name for them, but the ranch we hunted out west had lots of 'em... A geophysicist buddy of mine told me what the were, but essentially they are rocks mostly of iron ore that were launched into the air as molten rock from a meteor impact. The rock cooled in the air before it hit the ground. If you look at 'em carefully, you'll find a "flat or indented spot" on 'em and that is the "downwind" side of them as they traveled through the air... Some also have flattened sides and those were still a bit soft when they impacted the ground... the crystalline internal structure is from flying through the air and being slowly hardened while under the magnetic forces of the earth's magnetic field. Some of these stones are actually slightly magnetic, most aren't...

I found some in Montana and the geologists said they were “ glacier balls “ he said rocks would get picked up and the as the glaciers moved it made them round and as the glacier melts it drops them.

Saltwaterslick . I researched what you are talking about I believe what you are talking about are Moqui Marbles/Balls they do resemble the balls I have but it appears they have a different type or colored core.
