He’s gonna be 31 when he becomes a free agent and dudes like him don’t age well. I think his best baseball is probably behind him.

No doubt, Stros don’t win the World Series in ‘17 without Springer, MVP!! Plus he’s the heart and soul of that team and just hitting his prime at 29 y/o, and the founding member of club Astros, I’d be surprised if they don’t extend him.

Can you explain "dudes like him"? Who do you think he compares to that started declining at his current age?

Generally speaking, guys that rely on athleticism over baseball skills tend to decline at a faster rate. Springer is more of a toolsy guy than a skilled guy. Bregman would be an example of a guy that is the opposite of that.

So you told me who is opposite of him. I asked who you think he compares to that started declining at his age. Not looking for an argument but information.

I will disagree with you though and say George is going to have his best year this year.

Fangraphs had a great article on this in regards to guys who make a living with their speed a few years ago. I will have to search around for it.

Straight comps for Springer off the top of my head is hard, but Andruw Jones fits the type (though it isn’t a great comp because Jones is clearly a superior player in every way), but he never had a good season after 30. Andrew McCutchen’s numbers fell off after his age 28 season.

For hitters, history tells us they are most likely to peak at age 27. Springer is 29 and has only had one season without a trip to the DL. He will be 31 when he is a free agent. He is coming off his worst statistical season if his career. I think the Astros might offer him a two year deal, but no more than that, and he will want to max out his payday.
