If the hard drive was dying, you'd still get the splash screen with the manufacturers logo popping up. Are there any lights on the computer? What brand computer? Power button lighting up at all?

Ya I'm thinking it's his mother board or graphics card since nothing is coming up at all. No power lights coming on leans more towards mother board. I've had fans still run with a shot mother board.

pull the drive and try in a different computer. Go with a solid state drive next time.

Do not have another computer to do that to and will most likely be buying a new one today.

Could be a bad power supply. Bad thing is without parts to test, you'd just be throwing money at it. When you buy the new computer, you can pull the old hard drive and put it in the new computer if there are any files you need off of it.
