    Computer help

My desk top powers up, but shows no signs of doing anything on the screen. The sleep mode was acting up...putting it to sleep, not putting it to sleep. Now it seems it won't wake up. Screen test button says test good, but nothing making it to the screen, no matter how many times I restart desktop.
    Any help appreciated.

Have you tried a forced shut down so it will reboot?

Yes sir...nothing has changed since it was working correctly. Screen powers up with its own messages, but nothing from PC. Screen test good.

Cannot see what to force shutdown with on screen...just keep turning on and off and making it go through reboot. Nothing shows up...Seems like in sleep mode and won't wake up.

Unplug it and leave it unplugged for a minute or more to give the mother board time to drain. Plug back in and try booting up.

Also could be it's stuck in hibernate mode. I usually turn it off when setting up computers. Depending on the OS follow these instructions to turn it off.
Windows 7 - Click Start and in the run line type in CMD then hit enter. Type the following command pwrcfg /h off and hit enter.
Windows 10 - Right click on Start, Click on Run and type in CMD then hit enter. Type the same command from abvoe.

Start by disconnecting and re connecting the cable to the monitor.

Do you have both VGA and DVI monitor connections from the tower? if so you can try the other if you have a cable.

                    Things to check:

All connections on the PC - unplug and reconnect each one. Maybe a cable is not connected properly.
All connections on the monitor - unplug and reconnect to make sure they are connected properly.
Does the monitor have multiple source connections. Maybe the monitor is on the wrong source and not able to see the video feed.

If there is no signal from the PC to the monitor then something with the video connection is the issue. Did you change monitors recently, did you run Bios Updates recently? Something had to have changed to cause issue.

If your monitor is coming on and showing it's own graphics then your monitor is fine. It sounds like it could be your graphics card, that would cause your graphics not to display on your monitor. If you can hear through the speakers but not getting graphics it's most likely that.

If your operating system wont boot (windows), it could be your hard drive. The sleep and wake up problems sound like a dying hard drive to me.

NOW...I unplugged it for a few mins and it is running( can hear/feel it) but it wont even show the power light on the on/off button now
So happy I have all my stuff backed up on a external hard drive.
Might be off to buy a new PC today...
Son recommends at least 8GB ram and 1Tb storage
I see a new target to shoot at this weekend

Thanks guys...I have tried all of the above I was able to do, and I am thinking what Andrew here has suggested...Dying hard drive. The PC is old...maybe 5-7 years and gets a lot of use.

If the hard drive was dying, you'd still get the splash screen with the manufacturers logo popping up. Are there any lights on the computer? What brand computer? Power button lighting up at all?

pull the drive and try in a different computer. Go with a solid state drive next time.
