Yep.... but when the guy with the gun is a table or two over and staring at me and making threats, I am not sure that is the wisest move. Getting out of the line of fire by leaving on the other hand and then making the call...............

After a while the thugs left and my roomate walked outside to take a phone call. He noticed that they didn't leave but were actually standing around his truck. He walked back inside and they waited for them to all leave.

We called 911 on our cell but it didn't go thru to an operator but a few minutes later a DPS trooper showed up looking around and asked if we saw anything, they had a 911 call come in and no one answered so they sent him to the area. Surely they could do the same thing in Huntsville.

Yeah, they can tell what cell tower it hit and narrow it down to maybe a half mile to a mile diameter.... according to where the towers are and how they are spaced. I am not sure how many addresses are within that half mile radius but I am guessing quite a few.

Some of that stuff may or may not work according to the ability and equipment of the pd but direct contact is the only way to be sure. Obviously if you call from a land line it will hopefully show the correct address (but not always foolproof) but cell phones are a different matter.

If you don't have your CHL and are able to get it..... your cheating yourself out of your right to protect yourself. Have had mine since they said we could get 'em.

All a CHL is good for is purchasing and a right to carry.
If you did use it, you would be subject to catch a murder case even if you have a CHL.
The only place you can actually use a weapon like that is in your home.

Ok I dont think some of you read my original post. Pulling out a phone and dialing is kind of obvious when the guy with the gun is feet from you staring you down. Even if you pull it out under the tabel the guy could tell if you were dialing or doing something which would probably make him nervous. For those of you saying you would have left, He knew my roomate saw him pull a gun and target someone. It would have been very easy to follow him into a dark empty parking lot and gun him down with no witnesses so I think staying inside was the right thing to do. I agree that if possible the best thing to do would be call 911 but it doesn't sound like it was possible without raising being obvious. And for whoever it was that said having a CHL and carrying is pointless because you will just be in trouble if you have to use it. Even if that was completely true I would much rather be waiting on someones decision to make a case out of it then be laid up in a hospital or worse.

by not deciding to defend yourself quickly enough, your just hoping & praying he doesn't shoot you on a whim...

What part of the law are you reading? If the only place to use a weapon in self defense is in the home, what point is there of a CHL?

Your right of self defense goes with you and is not restricted to the home or anywhere else. The only benefit of the home, place of business or your vehicle is that you can have a handgun there without a CHL.

Sounds like your buddy did the right thing, but after the scrotes went outside I would have call 911 immediately. The local authorities needed to know what happened. A CHL is not the answer to all problems, but it can can be the answer to a lot of them. I would rather be judged by 12, than carried by six.(or maybe 8 in my case)

The CHL allows you to carry the gun. You have a right to self defense anywhere, anytime, permit or not, and with anything you have handy.
