    AR restriction question

Riddle me this.... what is the purpose of antler restriction?

    Allow deer to mature.

Allow hunters/landowners become more management minded.

Does a buck pass on different DNA to his offspring when he is 6.5 compared to when he is 1.5?

To let bucks live more than 18 months. Most areas with this have less deer numbers. I think it would be good to go statewide. Let a few more deer make it to 3-4 years old. Open it up for youth only season statewide. Then if you have one of those mature deer that sits and eats protein but is 11 inches wide you gotta get a kid to come hunt it.

Tpwd will tell you it’s to let more bucks reach maturity. Then in the same regs they allow you to kill 2 yearling bucks per year. Yep, sounds right.

No but the longer he lives the more offspring he has.

To protect a portion of the buck herd, so there is a closer to 50/50 buck doe ratio. You want a 50/50 ratio for several reason, one of the main ones is so most of the fawns drop at the sand time ie shorter fawning season

Bingo!! That’s my point. Kinda defeats the purpose of letting them reach maturity. Only for it to be legal to shoot a 6 month buck with 2” horns. I went to town to get corn and gas. 2 guys pull beside me with 2 tiny bucks in back of truck. Now I’m not bashing them it’s legal and that’s fine. Just thinking out loud. Seems kinda backwards to me.

Don't shoot me but, Mills county needs a doe only season for a couple seasons.

I’ve heard it makes the deer herd healthier. So I’ve been told by experts.

                      This is my take...
every now and then I see one buck I would like to shoot or have my kid shoot that won’t make 13”, however I see lots of deer now I definitely want to shoot that are mature and over 13”

I’ll take that over brown and down old days

I agree 100% that it helps(ar). But it’s just a head scratcher why bucks like these are legal.

I hunt 2 of the original 6 counties. Who ever thinks AR is wrong is wrong. That simple. I could legally tag out numerous times a season now, growing up I may not have seen a antlered deer all season. I definitely did not see a rut, now its obvious.

Make bigger horns to sell for more money

then you have the guys that have deer outside of the 18 inch and get pissy when the deer jumps the fence to the next section and gets shot well heck now it not old enough .. HA HA

                              Round and round we go
