Thats a good way to get pulled over and get a ticket, your back window cannot be totally obscured. I'm betting if he did have a long trip he got ticketed.

I completely understand that it is bolted. I just cant see driving my ATV up a set of ramps that would have to be safely 10' long to make a incline of 4-5' to put it on top of my truck bed. If you were doing it safely this would be true. Unfortunately this is probably not the case and this is something that we would read about from loading this unsafely. A trailer top which is a maximum of 3 feet and even 6' ramps are still dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. I just think think this is crazy from a safety standpoint unless it would crane lifted into place. As far as putting it on my top of my truck bed I just wouldn't do it.

So, are you saying all the pickup campers that obscure the back window are illegal...and I can no longer carry my 4-wheeler in my pickup bed anymore, and I can't load all my stuff into my back seat because my back window is obscured? I would have to call BS on that.

My only observation in all this is he has a heck of a receiver hitch on the truck, he don't have a trailer? If he's safe with it, go for it.

                    Boss,
Texas transportation code 547.613 restrictions on windows:

                    Rear (back) Window

                    * If vehicle has left and right outside mirrors, there is no minimum light transmission requirement.
                    * If not equipped with both outside mirrors, the rear window must have no less than 25% light transmittance and a luminous reflectance of 25% or less.
                    * The manufacturers installed glazing shade band is excluded.

That first one means if you have both outside mirrors you can (not sure why you would want to) paint the back window. Otherwise it would be illegal to pull a fifth wheel trailer, or operate a tractor/trailer rig.

I'm not trying to bust your chops but if you or someone you know received a ticket for this infraction it was a trumped up charge.

As far as the ATV I don't think I would do that, but to each his own.

Actually I have seen quite a few of those types of racks. No trailers to pull, free and clean bed to carry your gear plus still be able to pull a camper if need be.

Being that we have spent a huge amount of hours researching, analyzing, and testing products related to truck accessories, we...

I personally like the bulldog ones with the tall side rails.

My buddy is a dealer out of Weatherford for one similar to this except they load straight up the back and sit side by side facing forward.

Well I guess the police officer that pulled us over was full of BS, he gave us a warning, said he could have written us a ticket but was gonna let us off easy.

Big Ford came through Cleveland last year and had 2 crossways on top of a ladder rack setup with a generator to boot. Bed was loaded with ice chests, water cans and gear. Definitely had to have no braiins to drive them up to about 8 feet off the ground.
