Worksharp are for those who can’t use a sharpening stone.
If you own cheap blades, a worksharp is hard to beat. If you own quality blades you are reducing the lifespan of that blade by using a worksharp. They remove metal quickly.

I can sharpen by hand correctly.
I can also sharpen by worksharp correctly. No it does not remove too much metal.

Dirty Mike I’m with you. I can sharpen and have a stripe in the kitchen and carry wet stones with me in the field. I use it in the field if needed. I use workshop around the house if I don’t feel like walking to shop and using paper wheel
I use sandpaper and a mousepad. Sometimes a diamond hone to set the proper angle. After the sandpaper, leather strops on a board with black, then green compound. Finish with Mother's Billet polish on leather. This creates a convex edge. Some factory blades come with convex edges, like Bark River knives.

No need. I can sharpen a knife...
Nobody uses a worksharp to sharpen fine blades...
A worksharp is a mechanical device designed to remove metal quickly and easily.
There is no arguing this...
If you have cheap blades or don’t know how to sharpen a blade with stones it’s hard to beat a worksharp
If you can’t sharpen a knife using stones, without electricity then I think you are missing a valuable outdoors / survival skill.
Learn on a Lansky, Sharpmaker, or whetstones before graduating to a Worksharp.
Either way, I’d rather see someone know how to keep a sharp blade on a Worksharp then buy a knife with disposable blades.
I remember watching my dad in the shop sharpening his knifes with a grinder. Holy crap a high quality k bar would only last him about 6 months. Man the Spark's that knife would put out was tremendous. :-(
Most people do not understand what is required to get a shaving edge, so they struggle to accomplish it with any device. I was the same way until a knife maker friend of mine explained it. You are working towards a burr. If the knife is super dull, that will take forever if you do not start with a pretty aggressive grit. I'm no pro but I go all the way to a burr with the coarsest grit stone I have. I think it is a 180. Then I will hit it a few licks with the next grits, and then polish off the burr with a strop, cardboard, or a paper wheel. If you don't have a full length burr, keep going until you do.

I tried one a while back, and liked it. I just didn't like the idea of sharpening one side of an edge one direction, and the other side a different direction.
I think I'll buy one next week, I have less and less time for the whetstone.

The switch is a rocker switch and the motor turns both directions so the blade is never cutting into the belt.
You're missing out not using a worksharp. Nothing is faster for getting a knife razor sharp. I've been using one for 4-5 years now. Use it on all my fillet knifes, kitchen knives and skinning knives. Never had any kind of issue.
