Nordstrom Rack Store - Fruad charges

My CC was charged $390 from their online store. We have never even been to that store. And we only used that CC at two other stores in the past month. Wal-Mart and Clarks Shoe

So I assume an individual got our number and used it? I see Nordstrom online with a quick google search gets a lot of these charges (maybe all online stores do?) But our CC company caught it real quick.

Anything else we should do besides cancel that card? We don't even use that card for gas.

I had the same thing happen Friday when I tried to purchase an Ozonics unit thru paypal. Within an hour of ordering from Ozonics, I was notified that a purchase had been made at Nordstrom for 380.00. Citi called me right away and the charges were reversed, I called Ozonics and told them what happened, and the card would not work.

This is the second time my card has been hacked thru Paypal.

And that was the end of it?

Crap like this freaks me out.

And I wonder why Nordstroms is used so much.

I had fraud on my Southwest cc one time. Closed that one and had a new card and number issued. I activated it and put it in the gun safe. Never used it. 2 months later I had fraud charges again. I still don't know how that could happen.

I just "spent" $380 at Nike online a few weeks ago. My bank caught it quick and refunded my money in less then 2 hours. I got a new card sent out. It was a pain for a week without my debit card.

I received my new card yesterday, I hate to use it now. I want to order an ozonics while they are on sale. I probably should get a card that I can transfer money to as needed.

similar experience. discovered a key logger installed on my desktop computer.

when shopping online, almost every credit card has a feature to create a virtual one-time credit card # to purchase items with. like a burner #. One less exposure for your pocket credit card #.

I would cancel. No matter what. Get a new card and move on. Better safe than sorry.

Merchants can subscribe to a service that updates card account details. The intent is that merchants that store card data for recurring charges (Cell phone, power company, things like that) do not need to bother the card holder when the card expiration date is updated. Some of these services even notify the merchant if the account number changes.

So you get fraud on your card and cancel the card and a new number is issued. This new number then goes into this card updater service and the subscribing merchants get the update. If sounds good and the process generally works well but the hole in the design shows up when dealing with fraud. They are essentially giving the new card info to the bad guys.

We found fraud charges on one of our cards. We called and disputed the charges and closed the account. A new card was issued. We never activated the card, just put it in the safe still in the envelope. 2 weeks later those same fraud charges showed up again on the new account. This time I raised a stink with the card issuer and had our card removed from the updater service. I then called our other credit card company and had that card removed as well.

The only way to prevent your cards from being in the card updater service is to call each credit card issuer and specifically ask to have your account removed from the service. It's a pain in the backside but its the only way to prevent the bad guys from getting your new card number without it ever being used.

I would go get a prepaid card, one that you can transfer money to as needed. It won't prevent the card from being compromised but it limits your exposure to only what is on the card. If you want to buy $300 worth of ozonics load $325 to the card to cover shipping and such. Make the purchase as normal. Should the card get hacked the worst case is that they might get the difference between what you bought and what you had loaded on the card.

Another great idea is what someone else mentioned on here, get a single use card. As they said, you can typically get these online from your card issuing bank. Just make sure that they are not charging you, at least not a large fee for this service.

Fraud is getting bad. I just had my JP Morgan corporate card reissued 2 weeks ago due to 2 - $150 fuel purchases in New York within a few minutes. I have never been there. I rarely use my card for anything other than restaurant lunches for customers in the local area. This is my 2 card in 16 months. My boss has had 3 replaced in 9 months and another rep has had 2 in 12 months. They seem to get hacked too often with us.

That's the main reason I quit using PayPal.
