I did the math just like you and the guy I take my deer makes his own line of Sausage, it was actually about the same price for me to buy his sausage than for me to provide the deer for 50/50, it makes no sense to me. I usually just get 20# made and call it good. My family likes it so whatever...

I’m just glad I only took 26 pounds in to “learn” on. I’m still getting 52lbs of sausage back at around $3/lb, so all in all it isn’t too bad. I did verify the fact that I save a ton when I do it myself though.

Not sure how many pounds you wanted but if you only wanted 40 lbs of sausage you just needed to take in 20 lbs of your deer. Most do it on a 50/50 unless asked differently. Taking in 40 lbs of trim is going to give you roughly 80 lbs of meat. Picnics are running around $1.39lb and 50/50s $1.01 (pork regular trim) sausage isn’t cheap their not using your cabelas brand stuffers and grinders.
A lot have started charging an X amount per pound for parts and pieces brought in on top of what you are paying for sausage.

That’s $1.67/lb.

Personally it's more fun DIY though, you can come up with a lot a different mixes. Just don't kid yourself its a lot cheaper!

Well, I’m doing it for myself after hours, so basically. I’m cheap labor.
Already have the equipment.
Facilities are my house.
Again, I wasn’t complaining about the end price. I was a little caught with my pants down due to the additional cost that I wasn’t made aware of in the beginning.
