If I am wrong please provide some links.
In the beginning this was a concern of many, but the gap has narrowed significantly as more and more body shops have had to adjust to weld aluminum.

It was less than $15 a month difference in insurance from my aluminum bodied F-350 compared to an similar steel bodied duramax I was looking at. If $15 is going to break you, then I don’t think you need to be looking at either truck anyways.

Provide a link to what? This was my actual insurance. Meaning I called my agent up and gave them the VIN to the 2 trucks I was looking at. They gave me prices on both. I wound up in the 350.

Thin aluminum like that does not even make a pile, it will burn like magnesium. The thick aluminum, such as wheels, heads, blocks, ect., will make nice shiny piles on the ground after a fire. I have seen a few of the newer Ford bodies that have caught fire, there is no body left. I wrote many estimates on older Lincoln Town Cars and Crown Vics, that caught on fire one way or another, that had aluminum hoods. The fenders, core support, most of the rest of the body is there, the bumper covers, header panel and hood would be gone. The plastic, fiberglass and sheet aluminum, go up in flames.

I wonder if Ford is still using magnesium core supports, never did understand why they did that.

Went from a 2015 F350 to a 2017 F350 and my insurance went up $10 a month. Wasn’t any difference because of the body. The difference was in the value of the truck for me.

If you do not want your truck bed to get scratched or dinged up hauling stuff around and it is going to be something that annoys you when it happens....Why not a bed liner?

Here's a link to Edmunds doing a test on repairs on an aluminum Ford. No idea if they will have the same results as you guys but seems like more labor and specialty equipment.

Bedliner or rubber mat for me, works like a charm!

Cheap prevention to avoid the vast majority of normal use dings...

                        Lol, I missed that.

Some of you guys missed the point. We had two or three posts about stupid people walking up to rutting bull elk, and are lucky to have walked away. The post was more of look what an elk can do LOL...but I am completely entertained by the level upset over aluminum bodied trucks now!

The point being "sctratched or dinged up" is fine....event dented or bent in my case. But torn, ripped, and falling apart is another animal entirely.

As far as bedliners and mats, they make it really difficult to slide heavy objects like pallets and won't hold up in the long run, especially when they're over aluminum.

It was a bad idea to build a "work truck" bed out of aluminum, period. Though I don't think it made much difference in the case of the elk attack, you just have holes instead of dents.

Ask yourself if you'd rather have your kiddo setting in the back seat of an aluminum truck, or a steel one though...when an elk attacks it.lol

They're the highest selling vehicle in the U.S.

I'd expect them to have the highest number of break ins.
