I use an old school remedy my grandfather taught me. Mix beef or chicken buillon with garlic powder and water and pour over dog food once a day. It will keep the fleas and ticks off of the dog. I had a heeler that was highly allergic to fleas and I used this on her for 17 of the 19 years she was alive and she never had a flea or tick one.

Outside dog? If so get some diatomaceous earth & rub it in the fur. Non toxic & will kill them. Sprinkle it all over the inside of the dog house.

All of the above to a point....one question? Do you have any cats that visit your yard? We have several feral cats in our area and they are the culprit for flea infestation! Our 4 dogs get Advantage + every month for fleas, ticks, heartworm and it works great BUT is available only at the VET since it contains the heartworm med.

I'm originally from Lubbock and have been in Granbury since 2003. Trees, water and humidity contribute to all sorts of insects I never dealt with in a dryer climate.

Just a thought and good luck...…Oh, we have our home both inside and outside sprayed at least once a year...problem solved.
