Who hunts 50 or less acres?

Who hunts 50 or less acres and what do you do to keep deer coming around more often especially in a low deer density area? Obviously if you have any hunting pressure you can’t really control the herd and they prob aren’t spending a lot of time solely on your property. What are you doing to make your property more preferred than your neighbors?

I do around the house and neighbors place. Feed the does, get them coming in and the bucks will show...for a while anyway.

Corn, deer love it, but you probably already knew that trick

Feed, feed, feed and a water source doesn't hurt.

Run feeders 365/2×day. Plant food plots, make sure they have water. Make some mineral licks. Limit what you kill. I have 25ac. Plant some food producing trees, fruit and nut.

Grew up hunting 40 acres, over time we have acquired the surrounding land and now up to 300 acres. However my approach hasn’t changed. Give the deer a reason to stay, food, water, cover and most importantly security. With 40 acres there should be no reason to drive a motorized vehicle in it besides to haul corn or feed. If you use feeders fill them as full as possible at least 2 weeks before season and then stay out. Play the wind and walk in even if it means taking the long way around. You aren’t going to keep all the deer on 40 acres. But if you give them the things mentioned above you should consistently see more deer.

I have 50 acres next to properties of 50, 700 and 400. I make sure I feed year round, keep the protein feeder going when needed, chaffaye for the deer, axis, blackbuck and occasional auodad. But my most important thing is water. I have a catch tank set up under a small roof that catches rain and dew and stores it and keeps the game coming in. Out where I have my property there can be long time frames with no rain. Keep the water coming and the game will find it.

Have two pieces of property I hunt one is 24 acres one is 33. We plant soybeans every year, have planted several fruit and acorn trees over the years , hand feed corn only during deer season so far. Plan on putting 1000 pounds year round feeders on them in the future. Both have atleast ten acres of very heavy cover and have some source of water on them. They are also surrounded by huge tracts of property. Most of the deer I have taken in the last three years including my biggest buck ever have been off these two tracts.

I primarily hunt much smaller than that.

#1 rule- DONT HUNT UNLESS THINGS ARE PERFECT! that means that sometimes you can’t go to a certain stand just cause it’s opening day. Same goes for trail cams ect, as soon as they know they are being hunted it’s game over... done... no mas

I’ve been forced to hunt like farming. You farm when it’s time to farm not when you have time to farm. If you hunt when it’s time to hunt not when you have time to hunt success will increase all though stand time will obviously decrease.

To some the later is more enjoyable and that’s perfectly fine too, I can appreciate that for sure... but on small acreage it will burn out quick

#2- offer what other properties don’t. If you have food plots, have the best food plots. Do research of preferred planting not what the masses plant. If water is scarce... water. If security is lacking make them feel safe

#3 spend as much time designing entry and exit of stands as all other projects combined. Again as soon as they know they are being hunted, your done

I think this is a great question. Growing up one of the places I got to hunt in Alabama was collectively over 800 acres. But there were a lot of plots of 40 to 60 acres that were not connected. As others are saying food, food and food. But what has made some of these real honey holes has been cover. We used to have a 60 acre track that had been clearcut and not replanted so it grew up a hot thick mess. But it held bucks as a bedding area year after year. Before we lost it, we could kill (or at least see) a mature rack buck on the same stand from the early 80's to a few years ago. Food, cover, does is the ticket.

Have found out that hogs can ruin small deer hunting tracts. Do what ever it takes to keep them out!

I live on 15 acres. I have 6 bucks coming in everyday. Two shooters. I doubt that I can shoot them. Feed them every night. My son has no qualms. He even told the neighbor he has dibs on the 8 pointer.

Does one acre in a neighborhood count? Good to know all the adjacent owners. Shoot a BIG broadhead and rarely do they leave the property.

I was hunting a 50 acre pine tree farm a few years back. I found a scrape line on it and hunted there. That's about all I did. Multiple deer travelled through that little 50' x 50' clearing where I was set up. Several trails crossed in that spot also. Killed my best buck on that place and saw several other really nice ones. Tried to plant it one year, but didn't have much luck.
