What does it mean to be a man?

There is a podcast I recently started listening to that ends each show asking their guests “what does it mean to be a man?”

So I thought I would toss the question out to TBH to see what their answers are.

I think this is a very subjective answer. A young male who has the balls to join the military and defend a country where, more than likely, he has no idea what hes defending, is a man. A man is someone who can provide for their family and isn't scared to do whatever it takes to do so. A man is chivalrous and courteous. A man takes care of his responsibilities and understands the importance of work. A man keeps his word. A man is faithful. A man is respectful. A man never starts a fight, but isnt afraid to finish one. Being a man has nothing to do with age, but everything to do with metal awareness and the attitude to take on the role.

Being a man is the luck of the draw- being a good man is a choice based on ethics, morals and beliefs. What do you do when nobody is looking? Always strive to do better in all things. Especially the ones that are difficult.

Yep, what you and Hully said..except being a male is decided before we get here. Then we decide by our choices and influences about the man part.

If you’ve ever been to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert, you’ll know that this isn’t necessarily a good qualifier. I seen some “ladies” that flat out did not give a shee-it about skipping the line for the women’s restroom and hiking a leg to use the urinal in the men’s.

Some of you scoff at the question, but I think it is an important one. There is quite a bit of whining on this site about societal woes in our modern day. It is my belief that those woes are directly related to concept and responsibility of a man. Men are softer, less bold and allow ourselves to be more moveable than generations before. Sure there is a societal component to it, but we relinquish our masculinity incrementally and society suffers from it.

There have been some great responses, keep them coming.
