Something I don’t understand about ranches with multiple owners.

They want quality help but don’t want to pay anything fair. There’s no housing provided and so an employee can’t afford to even rent anything in the nearest town. Sounds as though they aren’t being realistic.

And yes, I’ve worked on multiple ranches doing everything from planting crop fields to gas well work to caring for cattle and deer. Worked my tail off.

Did you tell them you work 28 hours a day?

no offense but if you want good pay even fair its not in the ranch hand business.. just watch that series yellowstone they bust heads for like a few hundred a week

ive known several friends that went in and came out of that field bc pay was crap- work too hard for too little

I always assumed that ranch hands were there because they loved being outdoors and working hard. Never would have thought they were worried about the money.

I guess that would depend on what "fair" means to you.

Most want to pay what they paid illegals 20 years ago.

Just remind them why they don't have anyone now........

It's a real problem in some rural areas, particularly in the hill country. There are jobs to be found in small towns but there are not enough affordable homes or rentals for potential employees. It's hard for businesses to find good help because no one can afford to move there to work.

Edit..not sure what difference it makes if there are multiple owners.

Why not get on a ranch with one owner, if it makes a difference?

To Sika's point. A lot of little towns get land locked by the big proprties around them. And they cant grow out anymore.

They're going to pay what quality people will work for, or they aren't going to have quality help.

                      Maybe you are overqualified.

We have people begging to come do work for free. I’ve considered charging them. You might want to try a different occupation.

You could go work for the Yellowstone Ranch. As fast as those people die off they should have some openings. Just can't have an issue bunking with ex-cons and strippers. I'm not sure on job security though, owner has cancer and his kids are pretty screwed up.

You may be working your tail off, but it's not work that's bringing in a lot of income for the ranch.
