    Stinky dog...

I got a 7 or 8 year old lab from a buddy of mine who moved. Great dog, really smart, good looking Chocolate Lab.

But, he STINKS! He was always an outside dog, with access to the garage in the winter.
We have bathed him several times but no improvement. He does have a shaggy "outside dog" coat.

What can we do to get rid of the smell? Our dogs stay out most of the day and come in at night, but I dont want this thing in my house. The smell is "Musty" I guess, kinda hard to describe.

He is "intact" and my wife is gonna have him neutered. (nothing male around here gets to keep their balls.. ) Will this help with the musty, musky smell?
We will also have him groomed when the cutting takes place.

    Any advice?

If it is anything like my Catahoula/Pointer he will always stink. Sorry. He is neutered and an inside dog. He just has a natural funk. We try to bathe him as soon as the smells comes back. Usually in 2 to 3 days after each bath.

OK. I guess we'll communicate on two threads. I have a lab pup that is five months old. He spends the day outside and nights inside. He smells like laundry that was left in the washer for several days when he comes in. To much effort to wash every night. My wife bought some pet odor cover scent. Supposed to be cucumber-kiwi something or another, but smells like watermelon. It does the trick. I see if I can find the bottle when I take a Frosted Flakes break. Big owl of Tony the Tiger They're Great in ice cream headache cold milk!

Is he a good dog? Who complains about the smell? You or the wife?

Yeah, he's a pretty good dog..just a pet. Fetches and sits and such, not a hunting dog.

Both of us really, although I think it bothers her a little more.

Ok, then my suggestion of keep the dog, get rid of the wife doesn't apply here. I t was just a thought.

Possibly a problem with the **** glands. If the get "clogged up " your dog will stink an no amount of bathing will get rid of it.A visit to the vet may be in order.

Was wondering this same thing. Take him to the Vet and have the **** gland expressed. Might not be the answer but probably needs to be done anyway. Fido wont care for it much.
