Use a #6 Eagle Claw treble for live shrimp under the cork.
If your wife wants to lay out on the beach I would look into wade fishing the surf some. If the water is green and some what clear and the wind is not to bad this is a good time to catch trout in the surf in the 2nd cut. She could lay out while you fish.
Another suggestion is to take the jetty boat over to the north jetty and fish on the surf side. You can wade for trout and reds off the surf close to the jetties or fish for kings off the jetties farther out. I have caught some nice kings off the jetties there. You will need some wire and a big jerk bait (Rapala or Yo-zuri) or big spoon for the kings, but if you get into them you will have a blast. It will cost $12 for the round trip and you will need to take everything you need; ice chest, sun cover, lunch, drinks, etc. You can look it up on Google for times and price. She could lay out on the beach here too while you fish.
