My guess is the term street taco originated as being a taco served by a street vendor like a food truck or trailer. Kind of along of the lines of something like street corn. However, I've also heard people at Fuzzy's or Torcheys or whatever taco joint refer those as street tacos too. So I think the term is being used interchangeably by some that have never heard different.
