Short term enough I'm not going to get my moneys worth out of a new system and the warranty.

Then I'd Band-Aid it and forget about it.

I’ve used 427A as a 22 retrofit numerous times with good results. If money is kinda tight just do the evaporator change and retrofit. Could get a some more miles out of your condenser.

Ive been limping my system along as well. Anyone in the Lake Conroe area on here want to quote out a new system?

He did add some more freon and adjust the expansion so my ac works a little too keep us cool. His price per lb on freon is almost $30 cheaper than comfort experts.

              Hope it works out.

My upstairs unit is shut off, and the AC guy will be here tomorrow at 9am.

It was 74 this morning and normally you can hang meat in my bedroom, if I don't adjust the downstairs to fix the upstairs.

Went outside and the fan wasn't blowing. I believe I shut it off in time and the compressor is fine. It was blowing cold air and nothing froze up.

Called a few companies that have 24/7 service. One company wanted $85 diagnostic plus parts and labor to repair. If its the fan motor, their price was $795.

Needless to say, we have the box fans going and hanging tough.

What slays me is the fan motors run just under $100.00 and are not labor intensive to install. And if its the capacitor, that's about $11, but they wanted $325 to install.

If it was just the fan motor I would replace it myself. I had a fan relay that went out and the ac company wanted $400 to replace. I bought it for $35 on amazon and replaced it myself.

I feel like a new evaporator coil is kind of a bandaid, but at $2000 plus its a expensive bandaid.

Agree with others that the fan & motor are simple and can be found cheap. The capacitor is cheap and simple too, but good to be someone that has done it at least once before. Remember that it is holding stored energy.

Not all supply stores will sell parts to non-contractors or they have a higher price for those that are not. Keep calling around and you'll find both. May also try ebay and craigslist.
