Replace the leaking coil with Trane/American Standard remove R410a TXV and back convert with R22 TXV then drop in (R438a) M099. BTW R438a has the highest capacity of the drop in replacements next to R22.

I saw a sign in my local Goodman store that said they would not warranty any equipment bought online.

Did those online sites ask for a contractors license number? Just asking. I know most AC supply houses won’t sell to the public. I’ve know a lot of techs that wouldn’t look for the leaks in systems. I would but it was always a charge that would credited back if you bought a system from us. Hope someone can help you out

M099 is straight drop in replacement. and a good fix if your unit is less than 10 years old. That has been our go to for all units under 5 tons when they loose a charge. The price for it is starting to go up.

if you have an older unit, you can't go wrong with installing a new 410a unit. they are really efficient and you will see an electrical savings immediately.

              Find a different tech.

If you went to a tire shop because you had a low tire, would you be ok with them airing it up and sending you on your way?

Any service tech that will add refrigerant without doing a leak search (or at least offering you the option of doing it if they charge for it) should find a different industry to work in.

It’s humorous how this industry has become a race to the bottom. Everyone wants the cheapest price no matter what.
Why not pay to have it done correctly and have a system that will last 20+ years?

It's actually the evaporator coil that had the leak, not the condenser coil that I said earlier. I don't have a issue paying the money if it will fix the problem. This unit is only 11 yrs old, if it gets fixed I doubt it will last 20yrs. I don't want the cheapest price, I want the best value.

We are starting to like it though. Cause when we come out to fix things a year or two later all of a sudden our prices are not so bad!

I had a guy come out today for a second opinion. I have a bad expansion valve and a leak in my evaporator coil. He is going to replace the coil and recharge tomorrow. He did add some more freon and adjust the expansion so my ac works a little too keep us cool. His price per lb on freon is almost $30 cheaper than comfort experts.

There are several R22 drop in replacement refrigerants at this point, 422B, M099, 422D, 407C.

BTW, word of advice. NEVER order equipment online. No matter what the seller says, it voids any and all warranty from the manufacturer. No questions, ands, ifs, or butts. Also, most reputable or quality techs won't even consider installing a unit provided by the customer. Just my .2, been in the A/C field for many years.
^^^^^^. I do not install equipment unless bought from me.

We had to have it added $200. For the first 2 pounds, and $40 a pound after that, crazy expensive
