Need to put my dog to sleep. Question on cost

My dog is old and her quality of life has degraded to the point where I need to put her to sleep. I bury all my pets at our farm so I just need the shots. The last one I had to do this to, I was crying cause I was sad, then cried again when they gave me a $180 bill. Has anyone else had to euthanize a dog lately and if so, what is the going rate? I want it to be painless and fast, but $180 seems a bit much based on the length of time it took. Maybe the drug is expensive, not sure.

Hard to imagine a vet charging that much, but I've found that vet prices are all over the map in general. The ones I've seen charged $40 - $50 for euthanisia. $180 is unforgivable; that's taking advantage of somebody's sadness for your own profit.

I just took my mother in laws dog in Sunday . Was 168 bucks . She was out of town and wouldn’t let me take care of it . If it was my dog I would done it myself.

Maybe make a big plate of her favorite food and let her go out on a happy note...or something similar...you get the gist. I get that it's tough.

I’ve done it a few times and plan on never doing it again. I don’t like it when they flop around.

The vet we used to use on a regular basis did it for free. Maybe that’s an avenue you could explore.
