Keep a knife on your belt or chest where it can be retrieved easily with either hand.

My neighbor (old man in his 70s) as a kid and would use ivory soap, we'd drill a small pilot hole in the soap cube to help not break/crumble it. We'd only catch channels on soap.

Finished the evening with about 15 off of the jug lines. Picked up one 5# blue off the trot lines and lost another about that size at the boat after only a 90 minute or so soak. Back at it about 0700.

Try some Zote Soap on a few hooks , you wont be disappointed, best and cheapest bait around and I catch more on the soap than live or any other bait. Old man in his 80's learned me about it on lake Tawakoni. I thought he was messing with me but he was right.
We caught 250 channels and blues out of Richland Chambers a few weeks ago using nothing but Zote soap. Fish weighed from 1 to 9 lbs. We have used it for the past several years. If you look for it in a store you will find it with the laundry detergent and not the bath soap.
